My New Sailyak

Purchased a new Hobie kayak with a sail recently - unofficially dubbed a sailyak. It is Hobie's Adventure Island model. It can be used as a conventional sit-on type kayak, a small sailboat, or a pedal boat or any combination. When using it as a sailboat you install plug in outriggers and a 60 sq ft sail assembly. The pedal mechanism is a very cool design which was inspired by the 'wings' of a penguin. The photo shows me leaving my dock with the sail furled. To see a short movie of me doing a kamikaze run towards my dock, click on the small image in the right column.
